Pressure heads

Alongside is a length of pipe with a flow of water through it which has a velocity of 1m/s.

The gauges show the pressures measured at several points. We can conclude that at 1 m/s:

The pressure drop of the filter is: 2 -1.8 = 0.2 bar

The pressure drop across the valve is: 1.8 -1.7 = 0.1 bar

EXERCISE : If the velocity of the water were doubled, what would the gauges placed at the outlet of the filter and at the outlet of the valve then read?

(Solution : Refrepair Manual pages 516 to 530)
